Swish Appeal is proud to present the Triple Threat Podcast as a show on our site for the first time. The Bonnet Gang has been doing the podcast for a while, but now it’s coming to SB Nation.
In the first episode, the gang discusses four main topics related to women’s basketball, starting with the lack of a fair shock to WNBA legend Becky Hammon when it comes to interviews for NBA head coaching positions in the past off-season. The crew is puzzled as to why Chauncey Billups, perhaps an equally successful professional basketball player but a man who lacks the coaching experience Hammon acquired as a trusted eight-year assistant for the San Antonio Spurs, was chosen to lead the Portland Trail Blazers while Hammon was left without an NBA head coaching appearance. You won’t want to miss the fact that they are tearing apart the sexist inconsistencies when it comes to coaching women as men and men as women.
If Hammon turns to the WNBA for a job, the question is whether Dawn Staley, South Carolina head coach, will ever leave Columbia to pursue an appearance in the W. Find out what the trio had to say about it and also whether this season is championship-or-bust for the Gamecocks.
Attention shifts to UConn and the gang debates whether Paige Bueckers should return at all this season given the severity of her injury, an anterior tibial plateau fracture, and a lateral meniscal tear. They then round off the women’s basketball discussions by thinking about why the media asked Candace Parker about her marriage not long ago when she was wearing a ring and posting lots of pictures of her and the woman we now know about that she is her wife Instagram.
As always with the Triple Threat Pod, the topics are not limited to women’s basketball, as the NBA, other sports and pop culture are also discussed. Before jumping into women’s basketball, this episode starts with Steph Curry breaking the NBA’s all-time three-point record. After that, the crew finally decides not to trade Russell Westbrook, but still comes up with some wild scenarios.
Hear all of this and many more NBA trade talks, thoughts on Deion Sanders and Jackson State bringing in # 1 college football recruit Travis Hunter, and thoughts on the dismissal of Urban Meyer from the Jacksonville Jaguars.
