Three people rescued after falling through ice at New Jersey Reservoir – NBC New York

Three people had to be rescued by New Jersey first responders after falling through the ice at a reservoir, police said.

Netcong Borough Police received a call about a vehicle and a person falling through the ice on Lake Musconetcong just before 5 p.m. Sunday, police and fire officials said. When the officer arrived, two people were on the ice pointing where another person fell through about 300 yards away.

As the officer directed people to return to shore, a man about 40 feet away fell through. The officer fell over the man and tried several times to pull him out of the water, officials said. Eventually, after being given a rope by another officer, the man was pulled out of the frozen lake.

Seconds later, a woman also fell through the ice. Another officer was nearby for this fall and threw a rope at the woman. According to officials, firefighters and first aid workers were able to pull the woman ashore and provide medical care.

Other members of the fire department and the Netcong First Aid Squad were able to get to the third person about whom the call was made using ice rescue equipment including ice rescue suits and a rescue sled. First responders made it to the man in the water, who fell on his motorcycle 300 meters from shore. He was pulled out of the icy water and brought to shore.

All three were treated on site. Two declined to go to a hospital while the third was hospitalized.
