New Jersey mandates boosters for health and prison workers

New Jersey Gov. Philip D. Murphy said workers in high-risk community facilities such as hospitals, prisons and nursing homes must be fully vaccinated, including a booster shot. He said there was no longer a way to fulfill the mandate through testing.

I am signing an executive order today requiring all workers in healthcare facilities and high-risk community housing facilities, including our correctional facilities, to keep their immunizations up to date. This means both a basic course and a booster without a test-out option. It’s important — it’s important to remember that the testing option for those who work in healthcare is already coming to an end because of the Biden administration’s vaccination mandate, which the US Supreme Court upheld last week. But science tells us that just getting your primary streak is no longer good enough as it will be boosted as needed to protect yourself and those around you. Exceptions are made only for disability or other medical reasons, or for deep-rooted religious beliefs. Anyone found for non-compliance is subject to disciplinary action at their workplace, up to and including termination of employment.
