More than 100 NJ cities are fine with any form of legal weed

Bergen, Burlington, Camden, and Monmouth counties appear to be ahead of the game when it comes to getting communities green lighted for legal cannabis businesses – either selling medicine or recreation, or growing cannabis – in accordance with updated government regulations .

At least 14 parishes in Bergen and nearly a dozen in Burlington have chosen to allow some form of regulated cannabis business, while eight parishes each in Camden and Monmouth counties have chosen to do so.

In Milltown, voters have the final say in voting in November.

Milltown Borough Council passed an ordinance back in July banning all marijuana businesses, including medical marijuana establishments, but also put a question on the ballot whether licensed retailers should have stores in two areas in the center of the community.

The communities had until late summer to pass new bans on legal marijuana operations.

The council held an open forum on Thursday on the non-binding cannabis referendum question put to voters on November 2nd.

In early October, 23 medical marijuana or alternative treatment center pharmacies were open across the state, with more waiting in line as the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission could license new medical marijuana growing centers at its Friday meeting.

Communities had until late summer to pass new bans on legal marijuana operations in the city, and a majority did so – about 63% said they would go through “for now”.

Newly passed rules establish the state’s recreational cannabis industry. When licensed dispensaries are opened, adults over the age of 21 can purchase and own up to an ounce of cannabis under the state’s Cannabis Regulation, Enforcement Aid, and Marketplace Modernization Act.

An August unofficial census by the New Jersey State League of Municipalities found 360 parishes opted out and 90 signed up, just before the deadline for ordinances blocking marijuana businesses. It had no information on 115 others at the time.

The list below, by county, includes those who have chosen some form of licensed marijuana operation, for either medical or recreational use, based on the previous league survey and current pharmacies and growing areas.
