Menendez Appoints New Jersey State Director
Rudy Rodas, a native of Union City and until recently a senior member of the Murphy administration, will lead the Senator’s staff across the state
JERSEY CITY, NJ – U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (DN.J.) today officially announced the appointment of Rudy Rodas as its new New Jersey State Director. A native of Union City, Rodas served as Associate Counsel and Policy Advisor in the administration of Governor Phil Murphy. Starting January 31, Rodas will oversee Sen. Menendez’s Jersey City and Barrington offices.
“Rudy brings the team a deep understanding of New Jersey and the issues affecting communities across the state,” said Senator Menendez. “He has a sharp mind and is passionate about his job and finding solutions. Whether he advocates for the immigrant community or advises on transport, housing or economic policies, he brings with him an incomparable work ethic and commitment that will help us in our work in the state. I’m looking forward to the perspective he will bring to the team. ““It is an honor and a privilege to accept this position with Senator Menendez to lead the immensely talented New Jersey team,” said Rodas. “Senator Menendez is a tireless leader who advocates for the people of New Jersey on important issues such as affordable housing, immigration, consumer protection, health care and more. I look forward to working with our dedicated staff in Jersey City and Barrington to realize the Senator’s vision and ensure that residents across the state are heard here and in Washington. “
As Associate Counsel to the Murphy Administration, Rodas was responsible for overseeing the affairs of several state and bilingual agencies including the Cannabis Regulatory Commission, the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency, and the South Jersey Transportation Authority.
“Rudy’s significant contributions to our government over the past two years have helped make our state stronger, fairer and more just,” said Governor Murphy. “Senator Menendez’s government offices are in good hands with Rudy at the helm and I congratulate him on this new opportunity to continue his commitment to the civil service. Our loss is Senator Menendez’s gain. “
Prior to serving as a senior member of the Murphy Administration, Rodas spent five years as a bilingual legal advisor with the United States Social Security Agency. He also ran his own private law firm based in Jersey City and served as agent for Colombian consulates in Newark and New York City. A New Jersey native, Rodas earned a BBA in International Business from George Washington University and his law degree from Rutgers University School of Law. In 2021, Rodas was named a Top Attorney Under 40 by the Hispanic National Bar Association and was an Institute Fellow of the New Leaders Council in 2017.
Senator Menendez also appointed Rebecca McNeil to be his new outreach specialist in his Jersey City office. McNeil, who most recently served as Casework Manager for Congressman Tom Malinowski (DN.J.-7), will cover a range of topics including health care, women’s issues, seniors, autism, agriculture and nutrition.
