MANCHESTER, Connecticut (WTNH) – Illing Middle School will be closing on Friday due to COVID-related staffing shortages, the Manchester school principal said.
Superintendent Matt Geary announced the closure on Thursday night on Facebook.
“The decision to close Illing for one day and on such short notice was an extremely difficult decision as we know it will be an inconvenience for families,” Geary wrote in the post. “We also know that it is in their best interest to have students at school, but we will not have enough staff tomorrow to ensure everyone’s health and safety, so we have no alternative.”
Geary said they had about 50 more COVID cases across the county as of Thursday, including 12 in Illing.
Geary said 181 days of schooling in Manchester are planned this year. He said a decision to make up for that day will be made later in the year.
All other district schools are open on Friday.
