(NEWARK, NJ) – If you’re an artist with a community project idea, a resident looking to partner with a local arts organization, a nonprofit that supports Newark’s youth, or a school with an arts education program in need of funding, you may have funding Eligible for an ArtStart grant from Newark Arts.
Applications for the annual mini-grant program will be accepted on Monday, January 24, 2022. ArtStart provides funds for organizations and individuals to create music, dance, theater, film, visual and literary arts projects that benefit Newark residents and neighborhoods. The winning proposals will be awarded grants of up to $3,000. The application deadline is April 25, 2022.
“For 20 years, Newark Arts’ ArtStart grants have been a catalyst for access to the arts in every Newark community,” said Regina Barboza, interim executive director of Newark Arts. “These mini-scholarships have fueled many innovative arts and culture programs and showcased Newark as an arts-rich city. We always look forward to funding projects that advance the arts and culture of the community.”
ArtStart was founded in 2001 with the goal of promoting arts and cultural activities throughout the city of Newark, particularly for young and underserved populations. Since its inception, Newark Arts has awarded more than 200 ArtStart grants totaling approximately $550,000.
ArtStart has funded music and dance schools, local galleries, film and book projects, programs for children and seniors, and multidisciplinary community initiatives including neighborhood development plans.
